Remember when contractors had...QUALITY?

Quality Defined

How does your contractor define this commonly pitched word, QUALITY?

Every contractor says they do high quality work, but what does “quality” really mean?

Quality is:

  • of high grade, superiority, excellence
  • producing or providing products or services of high “quality” or merit

This definition gives a picture of the job done so well that you want to talk about it with others.

It’s “noteworthy” “exceptional” “outstanding” “extraordinary.”

Okay, so the synonyms for “high quality” sound great, but can these lovely words really be referring to the ability of your contractor to correctly execute carpentry skills...?  Carpentry skills such as:

mitering casings,

joining cabinets,

and hanging doors, etc.

...Really?!

If your contractor can't execute these carpentry skills properly, you are dealing with an amateur contractor. Yikes!

The Truth is...Any craftsman knows how to install a door properly; accurately cutting and joining wood and hanging cabinets etc...

Heck, a skilled tradesman can even precisely follow a manufacturer’s recommendation and install a new product he’s never even seen before!

But just because a job is done correctly, that does not automatically mean it is of high-quality.

"These properly executed elements of the job alone cannot account for what high-quality really means.

Sure, It's part of it...

I mean, you don't want to be dealing with an amateur of course but, getting the job done properly is only a small part of what truly defines high-quality."

So, what does high quality mean?

“Excellent”          “Superb”          “Amazing"

Think about what you hear people say when they refer you to a business.

In all three of the following examples, the jobs are done correctly.

“That new restaurant is superb! When I ordered shrimp scampi the other night, they actually brought me shrimp scampi!”

“I just loved the technique that hairstylist used when she was holding the scissors, she’s excellent!”

“You got to try Ray’s Garage! When they put my new tires on, they actually used all five lug nuts, these guys are amazing!”

...Seriously?

If someone tried using one of these referrals with you, you'd think they were joking wouldn't you?

Hear me now, “quality” does not only refer to getting the job done correctly. There is another element that needs to be present for people to consider referring someone to you

"…it is the experience...

When you’ve experienced quality, you know it.

The whispers of how good the process made you feel last long after the event or project."

Michael Lamondy, Founder - BizMick Construction

“Go to Ray’s Garage, they not only get the job done right, but the people are friendly. Ray guarantees satisfaction and goes out of his way to make sure there’s a warm comfy place for me to wait for my car.”

“The food at that new restaurant is even better than the menu makes it sound. They were so proactive, I never had to ask for a thing. The people were so friendly, and the environment was so inviting, it’s our new favorite.”

See... real referrals include not only that the job was done right but also the element of how great the experience was. The person referring Ray’s Garage will always remember the care that is provided for the customer there, the environment, and the overall experience.  A great restaurant does not bring people back just because they bring you what you order. People go back because of the experience of great service and great taste.

What is really in order now is re-defining what a high-quality contractor actually is.

Let us look at our new definition:

A quality contractor is one who provides work that is completed at and above the industry standards. This means everything looks and works as it was intended and designed without flaw (doors open and close properly, wood joints are tight, seams are even etc.).

This kind of contractor also goes out of his way to provide an experience to the customer that is both simple and enjoyable.

Great care is given for the concerns of the customer.

Then an awesome regard is extended toward the client/contractor relationship,

which should now last a lifetime.

Now, what do you look for in a contractor...?
